Hey everyone, Will Perkins here with a bit of an inspirational / thought provoking post today.
Something every internet marketer at one point or another asks themselves is, “Will I make it?”. It’s a good question, and there are a lot of variables that go into the answer. But the answer still and will always remain, yes or no.
After reading a good two or three hundred posts on the WarriorForum the other day about how people were asking what to do and whether or not they’d be successful, something inspired me to write this post.
So the question of the day is, Will I Make It?
The answer to this question should be yes, although it can be no just as easily. To be a successful internet marketer, you have to work hard, be patient, and stay focused. Anyone who gets interested in this industry and begins to think, “I’ll make $10,000.00 this month”, well you’re probably going to fail miserably and quit. But someone who says, “I’m going to make $10,000.00 within the next 6 months”, well they’re on track for success. Time and time again I see people worrying about going for the gusto (I know I just used a phrase our moms said to us, but hey it’s the internet… get over it). The trick is to just never quit and keep working and you will find success.
Here are some key things I see people having trouble with on a daily basis:
- Fear – This is probably the most popular reason you see marketers fail. If you are afraid to go for it, you won’t make it. If you’re afraid to invest that last $50.00 in your bank account because you’re worried you won’t make it back, you will fail. It doesn’t matter whether you started working in this industry ten years ago or ten minutes ago. If you fail, GREAT! Because what does this mean? It means you’ve actually tried something and it didn’t work out, so next time you know what NOT to do. So forget about feeling safe, because once you’re past that feeling of fear, nothing will stop you.
- Unwillingness to get uncomfortable – Are you someone who likes to stay in their comfort zone? Do you not really like putting yourself in awkward situations? Well guess what, get over yourself. Internet marketing is about making money, so if you have to get a little uncomfortable to bring in the sale, will you? I know that when I started I was afraid to start up a conversation with any of the other marketers I knew. I kept telling myself to add more and more people on Skype or AIM, but I never actually messaged any of them. Finally, I just said screw it and sparked up a conversation. Turned out to be one of the most helpful conversations in my IM career and helped me make my first $50.00 online. The goal is to get out of that comfort zone and do something that makes you feel completely uncomfortable. For example: About six months ago I launched a website on food reviews. I’m not a food critic by any means, but I still made the website because I found a profitable niche and knew I would make money if I went for it. The moral of the story is to get out of your comfort zone, and stay out of it.
- “Nothing is so common as to imitate one’s enemies, and to use their weapons.” (Voltaire) – What this quote is saying, is make sure you know your competition. Every time I see a famous internet marketer, or a successful product launched, I analyze it. In our business, success is found through knowledge, and knowledge is found through research. Not enough marketers are realizing this simple, yet very effective method. If you know what made your competition successful, you can take that and apply it to yourself. So not only do you have your advantage, you have your competitions as well.
- Learning when to just stop – If you’ve found something you’re good at, great. If you’ve found something that makes you money, even better. But the true trick here, is to know when to just stop doing the work yourself and giving it to someone else. Not even the great names in internet marketing like Kelly Felix or Jason Fladlien can do everything by themselves. Once you realize that outsourcing is going to actually save you money; because your time is worth more than you’d make from doing it yourself, you’re golden. Your time as an internet marketer is worth a LOT more than it is as a article writer or a link builder. You could be paying someone else to do that for you, while you sit and think about new products and ideas to come up with.
- Getting to the market first – You’ve got a great idea, now what? ACT ON IT! The longer that idea sits in your head, the more time you give someone else to go and take a chunk of the market. As soon as you find something you think will make money, get to work and make sure you are getting something out there as fast as possible. Your competition isn’t going to wait for you.
- My first sale! What now?!? – Most of you are thinking, “Yes! I just made my first $100.00, time to go out to eat and celebrate”. Wrong…. Every penny you make, minus whatever it costs you to live, needs to go back into your business. Once you are able to pay for outsourcing, upscaling, and covering all other costs involved, then you can consider taking a chunk of that profit for some fun. But this is a major mistake marketers make, spending the green before they are able to see more of it.
- Relationships - I’ve seen this said on countless other websites, but it’s truly the most important statement here. Building relationships with other internet marketers. If you ever want to be able to launch a $100,000.00 product, you need to have a lot of other people backing you. Get individuals to be advertising for you on their lists, and you do the same for them. Just build good, solid relationships with as many other marketers as you can. It pays off in the end, trust me.
I really do hope you take what I’ve just said to heart and try to apply it to your marketing careers as I have, because it really does pay off.
